NOWA Maiden Edition Seminar held to Commemorate Celebrations for the 70th Anniversary of the Nigerian Navy
The Nigerian Navy celebrates its 70th Anniversary with series of activities. The Naval Officers’ Wives Association (NOWA) being an association of naval officers organized some side-line activities to commemorate the week-long celebrations. One of the major activities lined up for the Anniversary Celebrations is NOWA Seminar. Consequently, NOWA successfully organized and conducted the First Edition of its Seminar on Wed 3rd June 2026 at the Conference Hall, Naval Dockyard Limited, Lagos. The seminar was designed at empowering officers’ wives with relevant knowledge on family welfare, personal development health awareness and contributions to the naval community. The theme of the Seminar was SHINE – Self Control. Humility, Integrity/Inner Balance, Nurturing Relationship and Emotional Balance/Stability.
The National President of NOWA, Mrs Aisha Idi Abbas delivered her welcome address, highlighting the vision behind the maiden seminar. The Special Guest of Honour, the First Lady of Lagos State, Dr. Mrs Claudiana Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu emphasized in her remarks the essentials of mental wellness and physical well-being.
The Seminar recorded a very impressive turnout of participants from NOWA, NARAWA, RENOWA, wives of retired officers and past NOWA national presidents. The Seminar featured 4 speakers. The first speaker was renown medical doctor in person of Dr Chinonso Egemba a.k.a Aproko Doctor who spoke on stress management while the second speaker was Ambassador Martine Shiriley Gereng-Sen who spoke on etiquettes and protocols. The third speaker was Engr. (Mrs) Onyinye Akubuilo-Okpalanma who spoke on mental health and finally the fourth speaker in person of Surgeon Captain IJ Akpan concluded the lecture with general well-being. The lectures dovetailed into a panel discussion which was moderated by Dr Sa’adat Adamu, the Founder, Secure-D-Future International Initiative. The moderation was interactive and generated robust discussion among the speakers.
Security was adequately provided by Naval Dockyard Limited personnel.
The event held at Naval Dockyard Limited was a huge success. The enthusiasm and positive feedback received indicated a strong support for subsequent editions.
